This place is a must-try if you are at downtown San Juan Batista. The home style cooking is super good! House wine, bread, soup, beans, salad, lamb stew are before the entree. Everything looks simple, but makes you feel like you are visiting a local home with a special hospitality. I ordered lamb for entree. They served roastrd lamb leg with their special spice. I had to eat with my hands because it's so big and meaty. Ice cream was served at the end. It is a wonderful place for family and friends get-together. Highly recommend their homestyle food.

Delicious meal at Basque Matxain Etxea Restaurant. We shared three tapas over rice: shrimp, mussels, and mushrooms. Great flavors and homey atmosphere. Would definitely go back.

We had dinner here last night. What a great experience! The service was rapid and friendly. We had been wanting to try this place for a while as we had never had Basque food here in the U.S.A. All the food was very authentically Basque, with generous portions and reasonably priced. We were entertained by a guitarist whose repertoire included Spanish flamenco and American ballads. Very romantic for my husband and me! We decided upon the Family Style meal (for two or more). We got so much food we had to leave with some of it in take-out boxes! The Family Style included many side dishes, fresh bread, salad, vegetables, starches, your choice of meat, lamb stew if you are there for dinner, dessert, and a whole bottle of wine! Loved the lamb stew. We rolled out the door completely stuffed and, luckily, were within walking distance of our hotel! We are planning to return again for lunch and dinner as it is an intimate, romantic, affordable family-owned restaurant with great food. The owner, Louise, was very kind to us and told us about his home in Spain. You will love this place!

My family and I went for Easter and the food was great! I had gotten the salmon as part of my meal. Super juciey but I had to add some salt and pepper to it (only complaint).

This place is incredible! Come hungry, the Wine that comes with the meal is quite good. No Cocktails, check in on Yelp for a free Appetizer. Service was great. Cleanliness is impeccable. And, the Food outstanding. From the beginning 5 courses or maybe 6 (can't quite remember) later everything was delecious. There were seven in our party. They asked us all one check or separate, we said separate. Had a few leftovers, no problem they boxed them up for us. We will all be back.

This place is a wonderful dining experience. Order a traditional meal, or order family style, food arriving at the table to be shared just like at home! Delicious meals, seasoned to perfection, tender and juicy meats, tasty soups, breads and table wine all mean if you leave here hungry it's your own fault! I've visited a fair number of times with friends and family, and have never been disappointed with the food or the service. And the owner often checks on you personally to be sure everything is just right at your table.

A cozy ambience, friendly staff. The waitress, Maria, made us feel comfortable and gave us good suggestions. Luis (Koldo in Basque) was very welcoming, he took the time to chat we us, shared some stories, and made a great suggestion for dinner. It results to be delicious meal. We had a "rabo de buey" with a garnach red wine from Catalunya, Spain calls Lineas; it turns out to be a great company for the plate.
